Detention, Deportation and Drug Laws
Year
2011 - Los Angeles, CA
Organized by Families for Freedom, Detention Watch Network, and the Immigrant Defense Project
This meeting will train advocates, activists and community members about the rights of immigrants when facing drug charges in criminal courts and the effects of drug crimes on someone’s immigration status. We will take a closer look at how the war on drugs has influenced policy on deportation and compromised the rights of immigrants in the U.S. Participants will learn about the deportation process and how to effectively
mitigate the harmful impacts of drug laws on immigrant communities, as well as learn about strategies for organizing formerly incarcerated immigrants and their families.
